Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides secure, resilient global cloud infrastructure and services to institutions across banking, payments, capital markets, and insurance. Through cutting edge tech and continuous innovation, AWS delivers a vast range of valuable services, industry expertise, and a broad network of partners. AWS enables its users to bring their infrastructure up to date to meet rapidly evolving customer needs, driving progress and growth across the industry.

The need.

At a key growth stage for Yobota, it became apparent that the previous tech stack was no longer fit for purpose. We considered possible solutions and ultimately settled on a serverless, container-based approach to avoid the security requirements around setting up those nodes themselves. Fargate significantly simplifies set-up processes, you can build a container, define resources required and simply run and manage the applications, paying only for what you use so you can easily scale up as needed. This has drastically simplified dev-ops work with secure processes that ensure efficient management.
AWS’s simple storage service (or S3) also allows us to manage access to storage through a tiering system to share exactly what partners need for data warehousing and customer insights.

Significant benefits.

Cost savings plans provide excellent value for money and a far cleaner process than trying to predict what we’ll need and for which period. Now we only pay for what we need, and when they’re not being used they can be scaled down to zero. The fact that AWS manages everything means significantly better usability, scalability and maintenance, with everything able to communicate across the PPC.

Limitations in the previous infrastructure caused ~30-second calls, whereas the new solution allows us to set our own rules around the amount of time to request and respond to processes, traffic flowing and firewalls.

Redundancy across a region is an additional benefit gained, with the ability to specify the exact regions in which we want to operate and full redundancy across all the available centres in that region. In addition, we now have the ability to use their deployment processes to deploy the platform in any of the AWS regions - ensuring the platform deploys to clients wherever they happen to be located.
